Main goals for 2020: 1. Get better in identifying the things that move the needle 2. Do them with less effort Holding 3 questions: - What am I trying to accomplish? - How to better understand what is the necessary and sufficient here? - What does it look like if this were easy?

OTHER than being on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube / mindlessly scrolling on your phone: When was the last time you thought "I'm wasting my time right now" ? Curious: is seeking distraction on the phone really the only problem we think we have now?

Hi! Another curious thought: When was the last time you thought something along the lines of "ugh time wasted" (external cause) or "I'm wasting my time right now" (internal cause). What were you doing? What happened?

On a second thought, perhaps I can give tactical advices only. E.g. "Don't pick up phone calls from unknown numbers. You won't miss anything." But heuristics, mental models, principles, "mindset" stuff, will be useless.

Thinking abt that hypothetical question: "what advice would you give to your 10 year ago self" I think: nothing. That version of me will never be able to learn that lesson by just me telling it And my journey will never be the same knowing it. Can't say for better / worse tho.

I'm curious now.... When you think / read, can you "hear" the voice in your head?

I DON'T hear words when I read or think. Now it makes sense why I can't /think/ without trapping the words in paper / screen....

yes, I'm capable of imagining sounds in my head. for example, if I'm learning a piece on the piano I will sometimes run through it over and over in my head to practice it mentally. Kids songs can get stuck on repeat. thinking in words simply isn't my default thinking mode

We wrote this piece, due to our concern on how Reynhard Sinaga's case has been directed into a different direction, rather than a crime, a pure crime. And unfortunately, a "scholar" could write something groundless as well, so here it is:

Thinking about employee in A better survey question than "Anything on your mind? Any issue, concern?" is "What are some things you are holding back / feel like you can't share with your team / manager and what would help?" Let it out. Don't get it out.

Architecting isn’t about controlling the answers; its about structuring the questions.

try them on, but don't feel bad if they don't (yet/ever) make sense. don't second guess yourself, afraid you're doing it wrong if you're not getting the results, etc. perhaps you're just not ready for it, or it takes more time. go live and try them on when you see it again.

ok, a thought: whenever you see any directives and "best practices", e.g. "you should", remember there's a possibility you're not ready for the lesson / action / recommendation. or they just don't fit your situation. don't beat yourself up for it

In hindsight, is this what those change management books are about?

Managing down, keeping the team unblocked and aligned on the mission. And managing up, getting ppl on the same def of problems. Debugging escalations and discern when something is a real problem (then decide & defend whether it needs more processes (!!)) or just inevitable noise

Every day felt a marathon of learning to delegate, training and onboarding, ramping up, setting context, rolling out new processes, and fighting unavoidable fire that came out of having new teams from different parts and levels of the org.

I can relate so much. Took me 1.5 year to fully transition from and grow a team to the point where we're running smoothly I knew there is nothing I can do but keep at it. Things take the time they take. I learned to let things burn. But man, it was exhausting.
