You don’t have to blog. You don’t have to create a course. You don’t have to go to conferences. You don't have to host your own podcast. You don’t have to have 10k followers on Twitter. Most of the successful devs I know have none of those things.

One of the coolest uses of I've seen is as a quick landing page. Removes so much of the friction of putting up a website. You don't have to worry about: > CSS > Hosting > Domains > etc. Would be killer if they gave you some more control over URL (subdomain, etc.)

Gatsby comes close to being a framework with its built in routing (accessible at that through Reach Router), GraphQL data layer, and an excellent ecosystem of plugins. Add on top of that the performance boosts that come baked in to Gatsby and it's hard to beat it.

To me, Gatsby is almost the React framework. One of the pluses to frameworks like Vue and Angular is they remove a lot of decisions. Vue has standard routing, state management, view layer, etc.

Both Gatsby CRA serve a similar function to get you started writing code quickly. They remove a lot of the configuration overhead, and put you on a happier path. But Gatsby offers more.

Good short talk from on using as a replacement for Create React App. A few things I took away:

A Narcissist's Prayer That didn't happen. And if it did, it wasn't that bad. And if it was, that's not a big deal. And if it is, that's not my fault. And if it was, I didn't mean it. And if I did... You deserved it.

We expect too little of our kids. Our ancestors didn’t have that luxury. Can’t help but think this contributes to the ever lengthening adolescence of our young people. from ⁦

It's not as if I'm unproductive for the rest of the day, it's just that my productivity follows the 80/20 rule pretty closely.

I feel this quote from in my bones: "Peak productivity for most software engineers happens closer to 2 hours a day of work than 8 hours." Source:

The best thing I do for hour by hour productivity is work cycles. Basically a more defined pomodoro. Start on the front end by defining what you're going to accomplish in the next 2 hours and why it matters. I use a Google sheet that keeps me on track.

I've always found this to be true.  The right manager can cover over a multitude of a company's sins. h/t

Do you suppose, O developer—you who desire people to pay for your software yet do not pay for others yourself—that people will pay for yours?
