Should esports "talent" be required to play the game they want to work with to be considered ?

I donno about that. RedEye and Machine did a great job at the DotA 2 international with their inexperience with the game.
Two of the best commentators in the industry. Both prepared adequately to do very well.

First of all none of them commentated in dota 2, they were desk hosts. Completely different level of experience needed. No doubt they are 2 of the best in the industry tho
