This is 100% not an American thing. This is a young street ware thing. Try wearing sneakers with a suit into any professional office setting and not being a CEO or other exec

I disagree, it's been on the upswing, particularly in younger companies. Its like jeans in a suit were 8 years ago imo
The purpose of a suit is to present an image of professionalism and quality. Appearance is a large component of top tier professional workplaces. If I go to hire an attorney and I walk in and he’s suited up with Jordan’s on I’m leaving.
