I promised to end mass incarceration. In 2020 we resentenced nearly 40 people who served decades in state prison. Overall, San Francisco's prison population fell by ~25%, and the jail population fell by ~40%. We are working to expand reentry planning to drive down recidivism.

America is 5% of the world's population but has like 20% of the world's prison population or something absolutely absurd like that. It is a good thing to decarcerate.

ya we’re also 56th in world crime index. All anyone is saying, is that in SF when we have stopped prosecutions, we have seen a drastic increase in crime. If the goal is to reduce crime, the decarceration experiment hasn’t worked in SF as promised.
