I don't know if this will help you or not, but one thing that has helped me was seeing who the department finally picked instead, in the couple of cases where this happened to me. In both, it's people I really like and respect who do fantastic work, which somehow helped?

On the positive side, if you've been a runner-up for two positions you are definitely a strong enough candidate that you will likely end up somewhere soon-ish! Still, I totally understand how frustrating that must be.

Happened to a lot. Being shortlisted, feeling confident then the other applicant gets the job. The thing is never to be discouraged and keep believing in what you want and what you can do.
