Myself and my sister have been striking now for 5 months every Friday from 9-3. Some people tell us that it is a hoax, swear at us, tell us to leave. Many more tell us that we are "inspiring" or that they respect us. But none join us, just us 2. Can feel lonely.

  2. So now the 2 largest parties in Ireland are both in favour of importing fracked gas? Well, whoever you vote for, make sure it's not these idiots.

  3. The problem with being called the "Greta" of x country is that it erases the individual nature of the activist. It ignores the contributions and the diverse nature of different activists and it actually brings the focus away from the crisis at hand. Everyone deserves a voice.

  4. I agree wholeheartedly that it's not about individuals, it's about bending the emissions curve. Our stories are important because where statistics and numbers can fail to reach people, stories can succeed. Stories have the power to change the world, and we need everyone's story.

Less than 3 weeks!!! We still need funds to take youth, me included, from Latin America to the United Nations conference in Bonn.

  10. today in , Ireland. Someone asked "Still here? How long do you plan on keeping striking?" We'll keep striking until they get it. We'll keep striking until radical action is taken. We'll keep striking until it is no longer necessary to keep striking.

  12. No one can remember a January like it because for as long as Homo Sapiens have been measuring and recording temperatures in Oslo, this has never happened before. It's unprecedented. If you're not afraid yet - well, you should be.

Housing policy is climate policy; what we build (40% of energy in buildings), where we build (33% in transport) & how we build (resources) are critical; in fact the billions for housing investment is the best lever we have for climate adaptation, if used strategically

  16. And while says that climate change will result in "warmer winters" and "less deaths" 12 million hectares of Australia has been turned to ash, countless lives have been lost in Jakarta's floods and across the globe and society is teetering on the brink of collapse.

  17. I could continue, but I'll sum up with this: have NO understanding of the scale of the climate crisis. They are incapable of even upholding their own flimsy committments, let alone acting with the speed required by the science. TLDR; FG = climate disaster.

  18. Ireland is consistently ranked at the bottom of climate action league tables and until recently was the worst in EU - that's worse than Poland, a country that had a coal exhibition when they hosted COP24 in Katowice We're being fined ½ a billion this year for missing our targets

  19. ...a far cry from the 30% we have committed to by 2030 and a decrease of ~1% per annum, again a far cry from the 7.6% which is the MINIMUM emission cut per annum to stay under 1.5°C (per UNEP).

  20. Minister is aiming for 1m EVs by 2030 despite the fact that there are currently under 10k on the road when a target of 250k had been set for this year. The target of 70% electricity from renewable sources will mean a net decrease in emissions of about 7-10%...

  21. Pennsylvania despite the fact it is destroying communities and that the methane emissions from gas are 84x more potent than CO2. As for banning offshore exploration, perhaps you'd care to explain this?
