He’d lived in this neighborhood for years and yet somehow found himself on a street he wasn’t familiar with, one he’d never even seen.

He suddenly realized he was alone. His friends and all the other trick-or-treaters swarming the block had vanished.

He turned around to find a dense forest at his back. The street seemingly began right where he stood and stretched a few hundred feet ahead.

To his left the forest stretched along the road as if it were guarding it from the rest of the world while to his right ran a row of houses.

“Where am I?” He said as he took a few cautious steps forward and began looking at the houses before immediately halting. “What on earth...”

There before him, the first on the street, was the house where he was born. It was identical, down to the twin rocking chairs on the porch.

He’d only lived there until he was two years old but he’d seen the pictures a million times, there was no mistaking it—this was Maple Lane.

None of this was making any sense. He shook his head in disbelief and glanced at the next house down, a shiver racing up his spine.

It was his current home, as if it had been copied and pasted. Something was extremely off-putting about seeing it where it shouldn’t be.

No response. He looked further down the road and saw a house he was unfamiliar with and an enourmous building. “How did I miss that?”
