He’d lived in this neighborhood for years and yet somehow found himself on a street he wasn’t familiar with, one he’d never even seen.

None of this was making any sense. He shook his head in disbelief and glanced at the next house down, a shiver racing up his spine.

It was his current home, as if it had been copied and pasted. Something was extremely off-putting about seeing it where it shouldn’t be.

“What’s happening...” He began as he took a few steps back toward the street. “This isn’t funny. What is this place? Jake? Evan? Hello??”

No response. He looked further down the road and saw a house he was unfamiliar with and an enourmous building. “How did I miss that?”

He began jogging toward the building, wondering if it had been there the entire time, paying no attention to the unfamiliar, third house.

He stopped when he reached the building. It was huge and extremely out of place, but it reminded him of when he’d visit his uncle’s condo.

“What else you got for me freak street?” He shouted. Silence. “Ok time to wake up now Jon...” He muttered under his breath.

He could now see beyond the building and only two more houses remained before the street abrublty ended and the forest began once again.

The last two houses couldn’t have been more different. One was quaint, to say the least, and the other was like something from a movie.

It was the biggest house he’d ever seen, and he immediately began moving toward it. He was almost certain it held the answers he sought.

He sprinted across the driveway and up to the gargantuan oak door, pausing for only a moment before grabbing and lifting the brass knocker.

As soon as he did a blinding light completely filled his vision and caused him to stumble backwards. “Jon, you ok buddy?” Evan asked.

“Jon?” Jake’s voice rang out from behind him. “Jake? Evan? Whats going on?” Jon said as he gathered himself, his vision slowly returning.

The oak door was gone, along with the entire mansion. Instead he was met by an elderly man clutching a cauldron full of candy.

“Wh-What just happened?” Jon said as he looked at his friends. They stared at him in stunned silence. “Trick,” the old man finally said.

“What?” Jon asked again. “‘Trick or treat’, you said,” the old man began. “Trick,” he repeated with an impish smile as he closed the door.
