The farmer marveled at the sight before him. He couldn’t believe it, but it’s as if an otherworldly understanding washed over him. This was real. “Y-yes!” He finally managed. The alien smiled. “Please, let us go then, you will not need any of your Earthly belongings.”

The farmer looked to his house, containing nothing of value save for some memories. “We’ve preserved those as well,” the alien said knowingly. Just then an old mutt sprang up to the farmer and into his arms. “I guess we’re good to go!” The farmer said amidst a storm of licks.

For the first time the farmer felt a tinge of sadness on the aliens face. “We’re afraid Julius can not make the trip,” he paused for a moment, seemingly searching for the correct words. “Accommodations can not be made.” “Oh,” the farmer said as he looked at his oldest friend.

“We are very sorry,” the alien said. “It is possible that we could recreate him once on our planet, from your memory.” The farmer scratched Julius behind the ears. His hind leg kicked in glee, just as it always had. “I can’t.” “We understand.” And with that, he was gone.
