    I had a student once who entered college with a 1.2 GPA. She finished w/ honors, & a full ride scholarship to her next school. She was the same person she was in high school, only difference was that in college, for the first time in her life, she had a bed.

    I am so tired of the "cops in schools can be supportive adults, like counselors" argument. If you want people trained to be supportive adults, hire counselors.

    During the 2015-16 school year, reported employing 358 sworn school police officers. That’s more than any amount of school counselors, nurses or psychologists that the District employs or expects to employ in 2019-20.

    Black moms in our country are dying from childbirth-related causes 3-4 times more often than white moms. Any meaningful solution to our maternal mortality crisis must address structural racism as a root cause of this problem. My new idea would tackle this crisis head on.

    Georgetown students want to create a reparations fund for the descendants of 272 slaves sold by the school in 1838. They’re voting to add a $27.20 fee/semester to undergraduate tuition. If the school accepts, it would be the first major college with a reparations policy.
