The 2010s were an eventful decade for NLP! Here are ten shocking developments since 2010, and 13 papers* illustrating them, that have changed the field almost beyond recognition. (* in the spirit of @iamtrask and @FelixHill84, exclusively from other groups :)).

California has a very poor infrastructure, among the poorest I have seen. Poor roads. Poor power system. Poor telecommunication. Poor city cleaning. Poor public transport. .. I wonder where those high taxes go. And people are silent; I do not understand why they do not speak up.

Jeff, did you also freeze hiring, like some other big companies? Normally, you and big companies usually announce that your are hiring, at such top conferences. Is this due to the expected recession, or even a big global economic crisis, in 2020?

Tech companies claim tracking benefits users. Yet they use every possible trick when users want to opt out—fingerprinting users who block cookies, dark patterns in "consent" dialogs. These deceptive tactics belie the claim that companies are purely catering to user interests.
