Mary Hopkin’s Tweets

Some very catty, mean-spirited remarks on here about the outfits worn by members of the royal family. It was our Queen's funeral... I wasn't aware it was a fashion show. All I saw was a display of great dignity and respect... something many on Twitter could try.

Trolls are very entertaining, aren't they? Mine, poor soul, has chosen to go all the way back to 1968 to insult the then 18 year old me. Sorry, dearie... it's not working.😆

I just snipped the dead flowers from the cyclamens I thought the frost had killed and lo and behold!...tiny flower buds were hiding there, waiting to burst into bloom. Hope springs eternal... Happy Christmas one and all! x

Very interesting. It's not widely known that George and I sang the distinctive, high choral line on 'Let it Be'. I believe Linda, who sang with us, received solo credit.

Thank you, dear, lovely people, for all the wonderful birthday greetings. It's been a lovely day... mostly spent lazing in my garden with a glass in hand. Cheers! x

Hoping to rekindle a delicious memory from the past I'm deeply disappointed that Cadbury's fruit and nut bar now has too many raisins and barely any almonds - so cloyingly sweet. The perfect balance worked for 90 years - why on earth have you ruined it? Shame on you!

On a purely trivial note... who likes the new trend of using an adjective in place of a noun e.g. my hungry, my crazy, etc? I think it's ghastly :-)

My neighbour's garden 'party' is postponed... now what do I do with the dozen scones I've just baked? Hmmm... where's the strawberry jam...

Yesterday I was looking up info on how magnets work and also, visualisation techniques. This morning, just after a radio play on 4Extra, the presenter said, "Later, we have a science programme which tells you how magnets work and also, how you create pictures with your mind."

Listening to church bells pealing in the distance while watching a glorious sunset from my window. Ultimate joys of sound and vision. Doo doo doo...

Thank you! Just for the record, 'Those Were the Days' was released in Aug 1968, a year before the 'Postcard' album.

One of the first signees to the Beatles Apple label was Welsh singer Mary Hopkin. With Paul McCartney producing she was the labels first big success other than the Beatles. The album Postcard spawned two big hits, "Those Were The Days" and "Goodbye" in 1969.

Gardens are a very personal expression, and your taste and judgment are being criticised. Remarks like that are unnecessary and hurtful. Sounds as though your 'friend' has some other issues... jealousy perhaps. Maybe it's time for some pruning. I'm sure you have kinder friends.

My grandmother had a wonderful stock answer to all comments and opinions from others. Whether insults or compliments, she would calmly reply, "If you say so" and let their words go "in one ear and out the other"... such a wise woman.

Again today, I saw my neighbour's unattended 4 year old bicycling straight out into the road without stopping. Parked cars on either side, so nil visibility. He's too young to be aware of any danger. Is this my business or not... and do I speak up or shut up?

In an effort to calm the rage and distress over the mindless tree massacre by the Council, I am slow-roasting halved cherry tomatoes sprinkled with oregano and olive oil. It's a start...

Day 67 of poems & jumpers. Yesterday we were on the Night Mail with W H Auden. Today we’re on the Night Mail with T S Eliot - and Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat. It’s a different train on the jumper, too. Enjoy the ride!

What's all this paranoid Twitter nonsense about? While the lemmings leave, I'll stick with the devil I know. It's all so utterly trivial anyway...

On an anchovy spree, I've just tasted anchovy toast for the first time. An acquired taste, but could well become an addictive alternative to Marmite. Blend anchovy and butter 1 to 1 in a pestle and mortar and spread onto hot toast.

Occasionally, my email decides to change addresses at the last second, so I've just invited the entire staff of Shipton Mill (organic flour) to a picnic today. I wonder if they'll turn up. No doubt they'll bring their own sandwiches. Doh!

I've just spent two hours online, choosing a silk scarf as a gift for a lady I've never met and know nothing about - trying to guess what colour and style she'd like. Daft or wot?

What a ridiculous question. Obviously, responsibility lies with the parents, who should ensure that their children have these basic skills before they begin school. How can a teacher possibly be involved in those crucial, pre-school years?
