Excellent thread. And necessary. (Plus, bonus points for any and all references to Graham Greene).

Very cool infographic shows the 100 most spoken languages in the world. Love how it differentiates between total speakers and native speakers. Source:

Wow. The top live-action foreign film in Korean theaters this weekend is ... Inception. A nearly 10 year old movie. Weird.

Wow, Picard is pretty terrible. But I guess that's kind of a tribute to the TNG series. Of course, I'm going to keep watching.

So, Korea just had a few really warm days with good air. But now it’s cooling down and then air is bad again. This winter is all mixed up.

Anyone finding their Google news feed suddenly full of utter BS? I did a search for coronavirus and got dozens of stories from something called “CCN”. Real news was pushed down and harder to find.

Oh wow. Now parents aren’t allowed to enter their kids’ nursery schools. Have to drop them off at the entrance.

Huh. Tokyo restaurant I just went to is spraying all their customers hands with hand sanitizer when they enter. Maybe 50% of people wearing masks. Coronavirus fun.

So, Japan had a record-breaking year at the movies in 2019 — 194 million admissions, which was 15% higher than 2018. But it amazes me how a wealthy country of 126 million or so people sells fewer movie tickets than Korea (which has a 50 million pop., but sold 226.7 million).

Lee Byung-hun's latest film, The Man Standing Next, had a really strong Lunar New Year. Stayed just over 50% of the box office the whole time. As of Monday (6 days since it was released), it's pulled in 3.2 million admissions and nearly 29 billion won.

Messages on the buses. Messages on the subway. Messages on my phone. The fight against coronavirus is on. (Personally, I’ll be happy if people stop spitting and start covering their mouth when they cough).
