Hey folks, before you RT—smart people have pointed out that my og tweet is misleading! The release of CFCs would have occurred with or without warming, as is pointed out in the article, press release and study. Ocean warming could simply speed it up a bit.

I haven't read the study but many atmospheric compounds dissolve in the ocean, and the rate of dissolution is proportional to temperature. Warmer waters can't hold as much stuff...
We deserve it tbh
This is actually not that relevant for ozone depletion, but it is import for monitoring and ensuring that countries comply with regulations (aka Montreal Protocol). That oceans might start to emit ozone depleting gases is currently not really considered for monitoring emissions.
