How do we stop this?

Call the Ohio senators and governors, tell them to not support it
-
Even if we don't live in Ohio ?
-
No. They only pay attention to constituents and you'll just tie up the lines. You can call or write people who live there and urge them to call.
-
It’s a human rights issue, an American issue: what states are next? All voices matter. Constituents are not stopped from calling. I’ve called & I’ll call again, but yes, Ohio voters matter most here. I’m a US Citizen making my voice heard against creating/implementing this bill.
-
As someone who has worked in a US rep’s office, they will politely take your call if you arent a constituent, but the will never record it and and the politician & their team will never see it. It really does just tie up the lines if you try to call someone who doesnt represent u

This is incredibly harmful yes, but as a healthcare employee (and a trans man) I don’t understand how this can even be passed. This is not only a huge personal violation but it goes against one of the biggest health code standards. HIPAA

Children under 18 don't have medical privacy protection from their parents/legal guardians
-
Yes, they do.
-
Broadly speaking they do not https://www.hipaahelpcenter.com/privacy/how-does-hipaa-privacy-rule-apply-to-minors …

List of HIPPA exceptions which includes the fact that if a minor can consent to treatment (for example, mental health care), they have a right to privacy.pic.twitter.com/GVQisBeCbp

Anyways I agree with your POV on this subject but HIPAA is definitely vague enough that shitty Republicans will have no qualms about passing potentially illegal laws attacking people they don't like and then just taking their chances in court
-
That is the scary part, because while the GOP are messing around playing games with people’s lives, kids - actual real live human children - are either not getting the help they need or being outed to their parents.

No! Kids will get disowned! We don’t need more homeless youth! This is transphobic. Trans people should be able to decide who they come out to and when they do. Coming out to parents is scary and should not be forced
-
Or murdered. There's always the possibillity of being raised by monsters.
-
Do you know many ppl who are capable of committing murder but care enough about their children’s mental health that they send them to therapy in the first place?
-
Yes. Knowing a person needs therapy isn't the same as knowing trans people are people.
-
All I’m saying is that the parents must have some degree of open mindedness to send their kid to therapy in the first place considering all the stigma around mental health.
-
I could see how that might look like that, but sadly, some unsafe parents will send kids to therapy to be “fixed” where “fixed” means “hammered into a thing I find pleasing and to heck with the child’s own personality/life.” It’s super messed up.
-
Your right. When I thought of therapy, I was thinking of more legitimate places than conversion therapy. I could see how that could be harmful.
