Juneteenth, aka June 19 1865, is the day that’s generally known as the legit end of slavery- more so than the emancipation proclamation. That day Texas declared they abolished slavery, and the confederate states followed suit

I did not learn about it until I took Black Lit in community college that was taught by a Black woman.

i didn’t even learn about it in my undergraduate african-american history course which was... not taught by a black person.

i’d honestly never heard of juneteenth til today. im australian so we didn’t really learn too deeply about american history in school, i knew slavery was abolished but had never heard the term juneteenth before

I'm American and I can tell you we don't learn about American history in school either.

We learned about the abolition of slavery of course but not specificially Juneteenth.

I taught my seventh graders about it this spring. I learned about it in eighth grade, but I am sure many of my classmates do not remember. People from outside of Texas may not have heard of it since it is Texas-specific.
