Imagine that, my parents were ahead of their time. We 'free-ranged' for years and still managed to make it home unharmed.

LOL In the 50's and 60's free range was in, except there were under cover parental spotters every where. They were called neighbours.

The year 2000 flipped and all the parents became paranoid of everything. That's why houses no longer have rooms;parents need to see every action of their children now. They call it open concept. I call it hovering.

We need laws to make legal what our parents did automatically?

Jfc. Children need to be watched for a reason. They. Are. Children.

Or as my parents called it in the 70s and 80s, letting kids be kids.

Editorial Note: one must own a late model Volvo to qualify as free range parenting otherwise it's classified as broken family for the rest.

Now imagine if some black or brown person in an urban area tried neglecting their kids and called it “free range parenting”

I'm thoroughly amused this law. *snort* So, will these kids be labelled now too? You know, like the eggs from free-range chickens to distinguish them from caged chickens/children.

Apparently this depends on common sense. The only thing about common sense is that is isn't. Leaving a 9 year old in the car for 30 minutes is probably okay. Leaving that kid there for 2-3 hours is probably not. Leaving a 1 year old in the car is not okay ever.
