I'm not sure why you ever strayed from showing subscriptions on people's main page. That was kinda the point of subscribing. To know when that person uploads next.

My theory is that as soon as big fat companies wanted to be the first thing to be seen YouTube's homepage they "switched" focus from their creators to their sponsors

This is mostly false; when I go onto youtube's homepage the first thing i see is videos that are already trending/viralizing and some rather small-views videos that are somehow related to sponsors for youtube. the only time i see new creators is when i go down youtube rabbitholes

I don't know about you. But that's how i found out most channels that i have subbed. There's always a sponsored video at the top that had an "ad" tag next to it so i don't bother with them.
