Global oil companies are reporting 2022 as their most profitable year in history. Meanwhile, the planet continues to burn as household budgets shrink. We must change course. The only credible direction to take is away from fossil fuels & towards renewable energy.

5/ Second, as more and more people drop out of the workforce due to Long Covid and other sequelae of infection, and sickness absences increase due to acute infection and sequelae, business will start to pressure governments. Notice how the business press is covering Covid.

1/ The response to the ongoing pandemic in the short-term and a call for advocacy: 🧡 Tragically, it is my opinion that globally, we will see very little in the way of improved mitigations against infection being put into place in the short-term.

This is pretty outrageous- HCW's in BC are being told to NOT test themselves for COVID-19 and therefore do not need to isolate for 5 days. In a memo to staff, Island Health's Dr. RΓ©ka Gustafson says the majority of HCW's should not be tested and discourages them from doing so.

As a doctor I recommend against going to work sick and β€œcoughing all over each other.” If you do go to work with a respiratory illness please have respect for your coworkers and wear a mask/socially distance…Jesus Christ.

Seeing some pretty bad takes on the new CHSP release quantifying how many housing units are owner-occupied and who owns β€œinvestment” (non-owner occupied) units. This includes condo units as well as investor-occupants, e.g. SFH owners that have a suite.

Deaths from #covid19BC in British Columbia likely higher than reported if reinfections not counted. Lack of PCR testing? #Vancouver #VancouverBC #VictoriaBC #SurreyBC #Burnaby

BC doesn’t count deaths from re-infections as deaths from COVID. They only count deaths from people infected with COVID for the first time. With the β€˜let-it-rip’ policy, the number of people who can be infected for the first time shrinks dramatically. twitter.com/sarperotto/sta

Masks work, but aren't magic. They can't instantly end the pandemic alone. Anti-maskers exploit this nuance to trick people into not wearing them. But you make a difference in every space you wear a mask, by making that space more accessible to higher risk people. That's huge!

Masks alone: Not a failsafe strategy. Vaccines alone: Not a failsafe strategy. Screening, testing, tracing alone: Not a failsafe strategy. Pretending a pandemic ended because we don't want to do this anymore: A guaranteed to fail, unsafe strategy.

I recall govt health advisors trying to calm me in 2020 - saying β€˜if we go too hard with things like masks & HEPA now, the public will reject them later in the pandemic when deaths are up & we really need them’. Deaths are up now & they sit & blink, watching.
