As someone who played old MMORPG like Ragnarok online that used sub or prepaid cards botting and afk farming rakes in a lot of money for the company *cough* they are still paying costumers in the eyes of the company for the server it just boosts population
Ethics. Terms of service temporarily set aside, could there be any way that botting or afk farming could be useful to a server?

Ugh no. It crashes the markets, and though they changed things to be more difficult for botters, like making fake trap nodes they get stuck on, or adding mobs nearby that aggro, it’s still crappy and annoying. Glad they made shared nodes though so they don’t wipe all stock out.

I can see how folks who like to stock up at low prices could benefit, but if you’re a seller of said item, it makes your stock worthless, as well as the time you essentially wasted farming legitly. If you buy them out they’ll likely just replace it in bulk again later lol.

Long term negatives have to outweigh any short term positives

Mid cata I played on a low population server that found itself home to a sudden influx of botters, they drove raw good prices down incredibly low, but this also affected finished products final prices, meanwhile, items for transmog, boes, and other non profession related products

Any way? Yes. Like in real life, bots could do necessary, disliked tasks. But it's a game, and if you don't like the tasks in your game .. I don't know, that's worrying in a way. And if bots farmed something, devs were allowed to let you require insane amounts of it.

And that would be the grindiest a game could get, I assume. People doing nothing but waiting for bots to work their magic.

Afk farming: say you want to grow things, such as the Halfhill farm in pandaland, I could see afk farming being useful for something that took 24 -48 hours to grow and was automatically reset (or with phone app lets say) and you could physically go there to change the stock.
