well.. more than 10 years later.. and the same toxicity is in HotS, Overwatch, Twitter, Twitch, YouTube or any other place people can participate in dialog/communication anonymously.. Just a lot of vitriol and anger where people need to feel better about themselves and can't

On most of those I can block people. On WoW you could actively ruin someones time playing. Time they paid for at that. :/ I have a looong block list on Twitter for a reason :)

Well, to be fair on the plus side, if you had to rely on players for things like repairs, it would end up forcing a lot of the assholes out of the game. :P People would refuse service to them. Blizzard needs to work on uniting the community more and getting rid of toxic players

The only way to eliminate 'toxic behavior' in a game is to eliminate either the game or humans. You have toxic behavior in Scrabble tournaments and there you have to look at each other face to face. The vocal few reward the toads by encouraging them through giving them attention

well, the 3rd option, yet to be perfected, is a means of accountability so that that poor behavior has ramifications. Currently there is very little downside - and sometimes there's "fame or infamy" by being entertaining like a celeb..

you can't let technology blindly enforce it or it will be used as a tool for trolls, but maybe we need in game people who are vetted and who's votes to silence carry more weight? something..

Or they need full-time GM's dedicated to monitoring public chat channels at least...

I would do that but I'd be harsh. There would be no dicking around if I was GM.

I'm fine with that :P Any of my pirate-language stays in /whispers with friends, or messenger apps with friends.
