oh, I don't know.. just depends on the people and the time. I think a lot of the negativity in any community isn't just a WoW problem - it's a bigger reflection of the discontent and frustration we see all around us in any community.

I know early Vanilla had a ton of jackasses harassing new players, from killing quest NPCs, stealing kills constantly, and overall just.. jerks. It's better now... but god you can NOT leave any public chat channels on. I've never dealt with having to turn chat off cept for wow.

well.. more than 10 years later.. and the same toxicity is in HotS, Overwatch, Twitter, Twitch, YouTube or any other place people can participate in dialog/communication anonymously.. Just a lot of vitriol and anger where people need to feel better about themselves and can't

On most of those I can block people. On WoW you could actively ruin someones time playing. Time they paid for at that. :/ I have a looong block list on Twitter for a reason :)

oh - I agree.. part of the reason WoW seems especially toxic is that there's not a good means of shutting down griefing.. but then there's a lot more people interacting constantly in an MMO, and got a great mechanism for buffering yourself from objectionable content.
