Guy I've been talking to just revealed that not only did he catch covid19 at work, but brought it home to his dad who died 3 weeks later. That must be a terrible burden for him and I don't know how to ease it or comfort him

The thing I would keep in mind: this is a Pandemic, even if everyone did everything right 100% of the time, people are going to die from it. It sucks a lot and it’s awful missing people that you love, but you cannot just blame yourself. A certain amount of death is inevitable.

I dunno if the guy will accept an appeal like that, but it’s kind of like if the one time you didn’t go visit your parents they got killed in a car accident. There’s literally nothing you could have done/known to stop it.

Yes, and this "I should have done something" "I couldn't have done anything" is the battle I can see
