I have to think it probably is a combination of packaging manufacturers that were already available as well as the difference of the U.S. willing to do mass produced plastic consumption against the U.K. Looking more long term. you are probably right about the plastic.

*is an american* *stares at hot dogs in a can* ... That makes SO MUCH SENSE. The hot dog water stays in a can! No splashing whenever I open the plastic wrap! WHY DO WE NOT HAVE THIS??

You have never been to New York City and dined upon the glory that is a street corner dirty water dog, then.

Ummm.. yeah I have lol Not in NY City but pretty much dirty water dogs are about the same. Just with less attitude. One has never dined on the beauty that is a freshly made Chicago Style Hot dog.
