There's a certain kind of bullshit I like to call the "Bold Truth Teller" where someone prefaces whatever transphobic or homophobic or sexist or racist shit they have to say with "This may cost me some followers, but I don't care" or "I'm sorry, but it's true" and it is tiring.

"I'm sorry, but there's only two genders." And for me, forget that it's bullshit. Forget that we have years of research that proves that it's bullshit. For me, the fundamental question is, why do you care? Why do you care about whatever it is you're about to present?

Like, for me, that's the real issue. It's not whatever bullshit they're saying, it's why would you go out of your way to say it in the first place? What do you think it proves? That you're an iconoclast? That you aren't afraid to be wrong in the face of group opinion?

Because your brave truth telling is at the expense of people who can't really do anything to you. You're not speaking truth to power. You're being a dick to the powerless. Denying people who can't take any action against you. It's the OPPOSITE of bravery.

"I'm sorry, but there are only two genders. Deal with it." Okay, why do you care? What business is it of yours what genitalia I have? Are you in the habit of checking the sexual organs of everyone you meet, or do you normally just take it on faith and move on with your life?

Obviously it serves two purposes. One, it gives you the feeling of being a rebellious iconclast while not actually risking much, since your biases are against those on the margins. Two, it's a flare for other bigots to come out and play so you won't be lonely.

"Hey, other racists, I'm out here being really brave with my racism, come and validate me!" Which they do. They do whether it's "Vaccines cause autism which is totally worse than death" or "gay people abuse kids" or any other ridiculous, unfounded, bullshit bigot opinion.

The anti-vax movement in particular is a toxic swill of bigotry, self-righteous fervor, and so, so much clapping at how brave and smart they are. And you see that in almost every space where people get together to tell each other how fearless they are to be assholes.

Autistic people tired of dealing with ableism so shocking, parents would prefer their kids be dead than be like us. We do what we can but it's relentless, willful ignorance.
