I call it a journey rather than a battle, because if she had a sword and shield I'm sure she would slay it ahead of the curve. She doesn't.

When she was first diagnosed, obviously I was worried, just like all her friends. I assumed she would kill it. I was wrong.

It's a smack in the face to hear "your friend has cancer. And it's incurable". But not half a smack as it must be to your friend! So you hold it together as much as you can.

Immediately, your thoughts turn to your friend. What do they want? How can you be the best for them? Does she need me to emphasise her anxiety and explode in tears? Does she want me to carry on and be normal?

Honestly, death is a reality for every one of us. And it doesn't help our friend to freak out about it. So I went with normalcy. Chemotherapy became her normality so I just tried to be there with her.
