I'm from NYC and relocated to LA (which is expensive in weird ways, but less so than the Bay Area). Olivia did relocate to the Bay Area though for her latest job! I miss her.

I moved to the bay area, can confirm it's obscenely expensive. Would not ever recommend anyone move from the UK to the US ever without a very good reason and a well paid, secure job.

And to be more specific on how expensive the bay area is, and on what I mean by a well paying job, if you make less than $117k here, you're officially low-income. I'm lucky to be paid well above that, but yeah. It's expensive. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-44725026 …

Without wishing to be unkind that's below the bread-line here. You could do it if you had subsidised housing and free health care, by which I mean your employer covers most of the cost. There is NO NHS or anything here. You get sick and can't pay, go into massive debt or die.

Tech and such are pretty cool over here. People are great. Everything else is awful. I can't emphasize that enough.

everything else? c'mon now.. it's not that bad.. or maybe you just mean the bay area?

No. I mean everything else. Healthcare: terrible. Emphasis on military: terrible. Government: terrible. Lack of benefits: terrible. Immigration process: terrible. This country doesn't care about its citizens. The bay area is the best place yet.

well.. as a citizen that has lived in 5 different states - and outside the US, I can say I'd rather be here than anywhere else. I can agree politics world wide are in an atrocious place. I agree reform in many areas is needed - but EU has plenty of similar challenges.

As a resident who's lived in 16 cities across 9 countries and 3 continents, I'll agree to differ. This is by far the worst country I've ever lived in.
