I'm surprised to discover that one of my prospects include moving to another country to continue my research. Either Berlin (!!) Or Berkeley (!!!!!) Do any of my CA gamer friends know how to move to the Bay Area? 3/3pic.twitter.com/AdhoqQ5jyF

move to Bay Area = EXPENSIVE Didn't
@oliviadgrace@perculia relocate from EU? But I'd LOVE to see you make this move if it's what you want to do.3 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -
I'm from NYC and relocated to LA (which is expensive in weird ways, but less so than the Bay Area). Olivia did relocate to the Bay Area though for her latest job! I miss her.

I moved to the bay area, can confirm it's obscenely expensive. Would not ever recommend anyone move from the UK to the US ever without a very good reason and a well paid, secure job.

And to be more specific on how expensive the bay area is, and on what I mean by a well paying job, if you make less than $117k here, you're officially low-income. I'm lucky to be paid well above that, but yeah. It's expensive. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-44725026 …

Without wishing to be unkind that's below the bread-line here. You could do it if you had subsidised housing and free health care, by which I mean your employer covers most of the cost. There is NO NHS or anything here. You get sick and can't pay, go into massive debt or die.

Holy yikes. Yet if I stay here I'm looking at 8-14k stacking shelves and depriving the world of my awesomeness

Berlin is hard with kids. I speak German and can do my computer doctorate in German but my kid cant.

Again, don't want to piss on your chips, but with kids, you're going to struggle so hard here. IIRC you already have additional challenges in that department, and life in the US will magnify all the hardships of parenthood, even without those challenges. There is no support here.
