From a brit POV: it's perfectly acceptable to complain and I know people who would complain over much less (doesn't mean we all should, but I use that as a personal guideline for whether I'm going OTT or being reasonable). They've literally killed your grass.
If you won't want to bring it up then I'd just put rocks there or plant pots. Make a nice little area and if they bring it up just subtly say 'well I noticed the winter weather wrecked the grass & wanted to tidy it up a bit' - you don't have to blame them ;)
