I'm guessing because peanuts were one of the earliest cash crops in the colonies, so they're a well established food that grows well here. But honestly I wish we would give it a rest...I don't like peanut butter all that much.

It’s regional. We don’t use peanut butter much here in Texas. I have the occasional PB and J, and I love Reese’s, but it’s probably once every six months.
