It just boils down to who gets to stand at the front of the line for sales. That’s it. Knocking 10k off from a 100k item hurts you both. Yours might sell a tiny tiny bit faster, but likely not as fast as it takes for the other seller to undercut you. Then that 10k is lost to all.

Your “respond in kind” to seemingly predatory undercuts (which they aren’t btw) is the best example of shooting yourself in the foot there is. If you want to “help” buyers, post your amazing deals in trade chat. You’ll seem like an even better deal too if the AH isn’t crashed.

the problem with labeling something 'predatory' is that there has to be a target (the nature of predator and prey). If the goal is a sale then I would agree that it is Agressive to list an item for 1c (or 10s less) than what is posted already. For it to be predatory ......

so every gas station that sells their gas 5 cents is predatory? Their goal isn't to eat the competitor or drive them out of business. It's basic business process to sell cheaper than the competiton. I have other tools in my chest if I want to eat a competitor.

Once you undercut by 50%, the next seller must do that. But if they then also use 50% then the value is going to plummet below mats cost, making the added value zero and not worth the extra time. No growth for anyone. Your value per hour is zero. Zero incentive to provide value.

Their target is the buyer and having their own opportunity to sell. All competitors want this equal opportunity, and none of them are here to harm you. The only time (contd)

Contd The only time that someone puts things on AH to restrict another seller is when they "wall". Walling is when you post large numbers at a deeply undercut price in order to signal ownership of a market. There are still options when this happens.
