Garrosh was an interesting conflict of writing. Afrasiabi spoke about it in an interview once. Basically, half the team wrote an honorbound embodiment of what the Horde was always meant to be, while the other half was planning the egomaniacal monster that he eventually became.

That was always my biggest problem with Garrosh. His personality wavered with no actual progression or character development. Who he was changed depending on who was writing him that day. Now, Sylvanas, on the other hand? They've written her consistently since Frozen Throne.

Till the end of the expasion she will take his place as the worst warchief ever, I promise you. Actually, I think she's already done that by killing a thousand elves and worgens for nothing.

By the end of his stent as warchief Garrosh definitely was unhinged. But I can see why so many orcs continued to obey him. Ge lead the Horde as an Orc. A powerful one willing to do much in order to liberate his people from ever becoming slaves and to take the land. As orcs do.

Im not saying what he did in Pandaria was right but it was what Thrall should have expected from someone trying to live up to a father Thrall said was savior to the orcs. Garrosh even told Thrall its a bad idea to make him warchief and declined it much beforehand. Thrall knew.
