I only have an outline tho, and would need art to make anything but a solid raised face

...and I or another artist would be able to help you with full art if you wanted that route. You'd just need to ask if the factory can handle a fuller sculpt like my dwarf or most countries' coinage.

I think the original art was meant to be quite anonymous, rather than vain, so the focus could be on the tiara, the thought bubbles. Hmmmm

Makes sense. Yeah, there's no particular reason to do things the way anyone else does them either. I just wanted to point out options. :)

I need lots of advice, I've only just started to consider it. Can you tell me about the costs you had?

It'll vary by factory. I settled on one via http://Alibaba.com that did the mold for $120 and production required a run of 500, I think it was. Something like 40 cents per coin, I think. That was a couple years ago, and each place is different, though.

Yeah, we settled on a Chinese factory for that reason. Pros and cons, but it worked out.

It all feels a bit complicated. So I need to make an Alibaba account, contact a die maker, then find a factory to make it, and haggle about price?

Most factories make the dies also. Just one contact point. I didn't haggle on prices, just asked about the MOQ (minimum order quantity) and quantity discounts.
