@TheFoodLab I know that both sides of my family called it that and they are from vastly different parts of the state. (~1,000 miles apart)

@thedrewstarr Chop suey was a popular Chinese restaurant dish at the time. They just jumped on the bandwagon.

@TheFoodLab Just saw this. My mom (b. 1948) grew up in Dumont NJ, and *her* mom called this dish "New England-style". -
@TheFoodLab I grew up with my mom calling it slumgullion- not even sure how to spell it- and HATED it :) -

@TheFoodLab that is one of my favorite dishes, waaaaay back from childhood. Pretty sure that has a lot to do with it.
