the pipeline companies wouldn't be pulling the eminent domain trigger until next spring at the earliest, so i'm not sure what a one-year moratorium does on a practical level. (Summit is the closest to getting ED clearance and their hearing for that isn't until this November)

More and more we’re seeing right-wing figures publicly advocating for violence as a means to maintaining traditional gender and sexual norms. Here’s Tucker Carlson last night defending Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill

the Iowa GOP platform says the party is against eminent domain for private benefit. but nope. instead, they nixed the bill (written by a Republican) that would’ve protected Iowans from the ethanol industry’s pipelines. story from this whirlwind week:

Senate bill 2160 died in committee. I’m very disappointed that our Republican senators forgot their own platform. I’m not sure what to do now. I gues continue to pressure the IUB but honestly, it’s probably moot. I hope the Democrats have a good governor candidate.

When you combine that with a societal obsession with punishment, there's no real incentive to understand the actions of anyone else (actions born out of desperation, or anything else) because the journey to punishment is not only shorter, but more readily accepted.
