I think people who weren’t exactly light skin nor dark skin wanted to feel included and made something for themselves.

Idk because some ppl legitimately don’t meet the requirements for being categorized as dark or light skin, so not mad at that. I will say, that I peeped some ppl only describing themselves as “chocolate” bc they think it softens up a dark skin descriptor.
-
I think chocolate is tacky . But I don’t blame people for wanting a different descriptor from “dark” since people use that word to describe so many negative things in so many situations.

This introduction of Brown skin doesn’t even make sense. It should be light, dark and mid tone. Don’t all black ppl have brown skin??

I feel like it is antiblack but could also be necessary when discussing privilege. I am dark skinned, but I still benefit from colorism because there are women who are darker than me. & I have seen (& called out) blatant colorism in situations where it was being perpetuated
-
in ways where I was getting preferential treatment over other women because I was lighter. But when people say “I’m brown skinned not dark skinned” that indeed is antiblack. It’s giving me “I am light skinned adjacent” vibes
