Really amazing, the variety of guests he had on in those days. Due largely to Merrill Markoe, I assume.
Not sure about that; I'd think the producers and talent coordinators would have had a greater hand in that. But you can always ask her.

I reflexively (and probably wrongly, in this case) give so much credit to Markoe for those early years, maybe too much. The show in her years there was so much different - and in my eyes, better - than after she was gone.

It seems like comparing the various stages of the Beatles' career. Some will argue this period was better, others will prefer another period. The big picture, to me, is that they were the givling Beatles.
