Historical topicality, but also (I'm still workin' this out in my head; you've got it in LG) a specific tenor to DL's irony: CBS's DL clips get loads of YT abuse from millennials who've rejected irony for broad, 21st-century earnestness. Don's (underwatched) clips've been spared.
I get YT comments from folks in Autralia and New Zealand whose Dave exposure began with LS in the mid-aughts. They'd been unaware of Dave's LN era, and for them it's a revelation.

I wish for more of that recognition to correct the simple surface narrative. Many friends, born a little later (say, '80), conflate the Daves in maddening ways. To some, DL = Hollywood estab - Leno/Fallon's niceguy aura + NBC-era meanguy ironist. He was NEVER all three at once.
