Wow! Thanks Don. Above and beyond. I’d read references to this piece but never had the pleasure. Do we know who on staff was responsible for his Late Night appearances? This is above and beyond.

That I don't know. I have to think someone there had been aware of the 1983 VV piece. And Steve O'Donnell grew up in Cleveland. Wouldn't surprise me if that's the connection; will ask him when we meet up sometime this year.

I wasn't at the database when I posted that. Turns out I do know: Pekar's Boston Herald article, June 3, 1994: "Steve O'Donnell ... got me on Late Night in October 1986, because he liked my autobiographical comic book series 'American Splendor.'"
