      1. Even though I was born after The Andy Griffith Show was off the air, and even though I was a part of the 1980s MTV generation, my affinity for this show is VERY strong. What Griffith and Don Knotts did in those first 5 years was magical and WAY ahead of its time. It taught...pic.twitter.com/7RDqqmKxDS

      2. that humour could come primarily from characterization, and not just scattershot attempts at one-liner jokes. This is a screenshot of a 1985 #DavidLetterman appearance, right before they did the Return to Mayberry special. Griffith was right: in the mid 1980s, I was able to...pic.twitter.com/7J2OhjmXnV

      3. watch three episodes back-to-back-to-back. Did that many times with my late Mother. At the core of the show was that Griffith kept the show grounded in integrity. And a lot of the show's charm came from the effort put into throwaway moments...pic.twitter.com/wCrX1bbZdx

      4. like the character of Clint Howard (Director Ron Howard's younger brother); a toddleer who randomly (and silently) popped up and offered people like Barney Fife a bite of his sandwich. Wonderful television in the earlier days of the medium.pic.twitter.com/oXdNaWwUl5

      5. @thedonz5, I don't know if Andy did more appearances with Dave, or if ANYONE from The Andy Griffith Show appeared on either #DavidLetterman show (other than the Howard Bros.) but I'd love to see those if they did. @thegoldenyear <eom>

That May 14, 1985, appearance was it for Andy. Clint Howard's only app. was May 1, 1986. Ron, 4 each on LN & LS. That's it, though there was an homage to Howard McNear on Dec. 13, 1982.

No Don Knotts? Thought I had read somewhere that he had appeared once.

Nope; the only time Dave and Don appeared in the same room publicly (that I know of) was when Dave honored Steve Allen in 1986, which I uploaded here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vi_dq0U75fk …

It was this Google search, to imdb, that tripped me up. When I first saw it, I was like, "Huh?! Don appeared a month into the new show? How would I have missed THAT!"pic.twitter.com/ITcXfYV57o

You're right; I should have checked LS. Don was a quick cameo in the audience during the Top Ten NY Mets Excuses: 6. Mistake to let Don Knotts bat cleanup and 3. Drank Slurpee too fast; got a "brain-freeze"; whereas Don walks out.
