We understand.
He went on Jay's Tonight Show right after "The Late Shift" came out and immediately brought up the story about Jay hiding in the closet. Jay was clearly annoyed and I don't think he ever had Charles on again.
Looking at the Tonight list, I’m left thinking the ‘92 appearance is the one where Jay was hanging on for dear life, keeping it as homey and milk-film shallow as possible so he didn’t have to match wits. The tenor was as different as could be from LNWDL or the Carson Tonights.
Any idea why the gap from’73-‘79? I feel like he referenced a ban during one of his later appearances, but quickly played it off as a joke
I wondered as well. Fortunately, he briefly went into it in his Act 1 segment before his chat with Dave. Stay tuned.
