I’m surprised we haven’t seen something similar on @MLBTV between two different broadcasts of the same game.

My lord, Dave was so much better at what he did than Jay. This is about as good of proof that you’re ever gonna get that NBC was run by ego back then, not a drive to pick the best talent.
-
Don’t get me wrong, I like a lot of Jays old stand up and he worked hard... but this is his WORST era when he was stealing the show from Dave and Johnny. Just no soul whatsoever. Hammy, creepy bobble head delivery. Manipulative to audiences. Ew.

Jay does it much better than Dave. The way Dave drags out the setup is deadly. Doesn't take any enjoyment in the laugh, either.
-
Makes sense. Jay was, after all, an accomplished stand-up. He excelled at it.

I believe Letterman made a deal with Carson that he would never do a monologue - he would normally come out and make a few quick weird jokes and get to the desk. Also, Letterman hated doing easy laugh stuff like condom jokes - Jay never had a problem with it - still doesn't.

I’m sure Dave would have been great hosting the Tonight Show but I’m glad his show remained in NYC.
-
Me too. He also started a talk show dynasty for CBS, where movies were starting to look pretty old.
