So a favorite Morning Show memory didn't happen, sigh. You're confirming Letterman never said "Anson Williams" nor Edwin Newman the words "dark horse" on one of the early-in-the-series DL/EN chats after the EN newscast? My brain's wiring is sometimes a mystery.

Your brain is probably fine, at least about this. That the transcripts failed doesn’t necessarily mean he never said it. Only that the available transcripts didn’t capture it. May simply mean that the transcripts are incomplete.
