Before opening the box, I'd consider doing a hard reset on everything involved (router should have a physical reset button that will restore it to factory settings, and Airport should have a similar function) and starting from scratch. Might save you the cost of a new router.
Just ordered a new router. Will have to wait for delivery and discover that's not the problem.
