I decided early on to monetize nothing. Best defense when I’m accused of profiting off of others’ content. Also keeps me in ok standing with those who do own the content.
It’s not that I’m not able; I chose not to from the start. I was considering the long game here. When the channel hit 100 million, I emailed someone in Dave’s orbit, joking that not monetizing anything may have been a mistake.

I thought YT rules require the content to be yours if you opt to monetize. And if you monetize something that isn’t yours they could penalize your account? Perhaps I’m way off here but that’s what i thought

Nobody actually checks if it's yours or not, it's an honor system kinda thing. Now you even get to tell YouTube if your video is "controversial" or not so they can know to run ads on it
