That is going to be awesome. I remember damn near falling off chair when he said one nightclub owner I guess he didn't care for learned everything about the business from Jack Ruby.

Part 1 is 1981-82 ('81 from Looking for Fun; '82 all LN) preceded by Dave's 2003 eulogy. His eleven '82 LN appearances are uneven, but there are some good moments as both learn to loosen up as the year progresses.

I remember following his whole "looking for a gimmick" arc.

Yeah, that's somewhat later. Not yet present in '82. Also, he repeats a joke he didn't think he told in a previous appearance. Minor but irritating; he's running out of material, same with Carson a few years earlier.

Yeah, I recall that being later. I always looked forward to him being on. Was surprised he never went beyond Letterman.
