Ed Subitzky ("The Impostor") Collection on Letterman, 1980-84. Thanks to @BrianAbrams's ebook _And Now…An Oral History of "Late Night with David Letterman," 1982-1993_ for the Ed quotes.https://youtu.be/O_Z7vYARF_4

Way too hip for the morning TV crowd. (Was in the audience July 10, 1980, a pre-recorded show for air later).

That July 10 taping was only 30 minutes long; it aired the following Monday, July 14. It was short so that NBC could begin coverage of the GOP National Convention. Where were you in the audience? Perhaps you were on camera.

Was in the section closest to 6A door, maybe 3 rows up. Before the taping, Dave came out wearing painter's pants & put papers on his desk. NO ONE recognized him; I was coming out of my skin. Went to CBS to watch Cronkite later in day, when an Iranian hostage was released.

Dave was in the audience for both the cold open and Act 1. Unfortunately, the camera shots were only in the middle and Stage Right sections. So no dice.

Many thanks for checking. I guess I remember him in the audience but, holy crap, that was 40 years ago. Was in SNL audience when Hefner hosted & 5 more times. Been in LN audience with Dave & Conan buncha times. Used to sneak into NBC as a teen by pretending to get job app in HR.

Think about it - it was nearly 40 years ago and you remember where you were sitting in the audience.

Took the train from Albany with a buddy because we loved Letterman's comedy and I got tix in the mail. I remember when he walked to the desk w/the papers before the taping, elbowing my pal whispering, "There he is. There he is." It registered with NO ONE sitting around us.
