Merrill wrote a cold opening for the writers and SK so that his fans among us (I was/am one) could hang with him. Then she killed it because she decided it wasn’t funny enough. But it was a nice gift to us and I have vivid memories of shooting it.
This answers a mystery I’ve had for years: Gaines’s log includes the cold open, but all video sources don’t. What do you remember about it?

We were gathered around him asking where he got his ideas and while he was talking, an axe on a wire flew around us and the scene ended when a big hairy claw came down on his shoulder. SK did a nice job of buttoning the bit with a big reaction
