It's amazing how history gets condensed. I clearly remember Leno being one of Letterman's very best guests. His bit about Star Trek from August 1984 was one I saved on VHS for ages.
A more-frequent comment on my YT channel: "I've always liked Jay [Leno] and didn't know he was on Late Night so many times. Doesn't help that I wasn't born yet, either."

I get comments from folks in, say, New Zealand, who explain that their country didn't begin airing Dave until the mid-2000s. That's their baseline. So it's a revelation for them to watch the Late Night era. They had no idea.
